JumpStart Scholarships

High school students with an interest in attending college may wish to get a head start on financing their dreams by applying for the College JumpStart Scholarships. This high school scholarship is awarded annually and is merit-based. Unlike many scholarships, financial need is not considered as a basis for this scholarship. In addition, no test scores will be considered for this scholarship. The scholarship is open to students in tenth grade through twelfth grade.

The primary requirement to be considered for this scholarship is a strong commitment to attending college and the ability to express your goals for completing a higher education. Traits that judges look for when choosing winners for the JumpStart scholarship include perseverance, hard work and a love of learning.

The primary requirement for the JumpStart scholarship is that applicants must be able to demonstrate a commitment to attending school and the ability to express their goals for obtaining a higher education by answer one of three questions. Those three questions are:

1. What are your educational goals?
2. How will winning this scholarship help you attain your goals?
3. Describe a time when ‘hard work’ paid off. Questions must be answered in 250 words or less to apply for the scholarship.

Applicants must be a 10th-12th grade high school student, college student or non-traditional college student to apply. Applicants must also plan to attend an accredited two-year or four-year university or college. Scholarship funds may also be used at a trade school or vocational school in the United States.

Several JumpStart Scholarships are offered. The first place award winner receives a $1,500 scholarship. There is also a second place award, the winner of which will receive a $750 scholarship. In addition, there are also honorable mentions. Those award winners will receive $250 scholarships.

The College JumpStart Scholarships Fund was founded by Susan Lark in 2009 in the San Francisco Bay Area. These high school college scholarships are still funded today through Ms. Lark’s generosity, as well as through corporate donations. The deadline to apply for the JumpStart Scholarship is April 15, 2012.
